Just a day before the first paper of end of semester exams and i'm blogging. its cos i can't find anything relaxing to watch on tv right now. so i decided to liven up my blog a little. realised it's rather stale. can count the number of posts i added with one hand since i entered uni.
I'm just glad that all assignments and projects are over. the one with the greatest relief was Professional Issues and Practices project. this is long over due, but i'd like to add certain pictures from preparation period to the big day (:
Preparation
Our big BLUE taxi.
Some of the weirdest names we came up with
Emma's really proud of the handphones (:
Presentation day
Pretty girls on presentation day. hah.
Its funny how presentations in uni should be serious and all factual. Ironically, the cohort's presentaions can be compiled to form a comedy serial! Personal favourite: Ollie's group (:
Well, weeks of hard work for some groups, but 2 weeks of PURE-CHIONGING for my group, in exchange for a day of fun and gratification. i'm just glad we managed to pull it off.
alrights. back to reality. tomorrow's the start of the end of semester exams and kicking off with anatomy first. well, there's pros and cons. but i'd like to choose to believe that we can get it over and done with first cos i'm not putting in much effort for my nursing modules!!!
okies. before signing off, i'd like to put up some pics from haagen dazs (the last time we actually had fun). photos courtesy of bear.
OLLIE!!!

its weird how uni doesn't have homework from tutorials, so we're supposed to be more "relaxed" than back in JC, considering that i actually made it a point to complete all my tutorials in JC. but its NOT much easier now!!
i find myself pressing for time. research never ends. assignments (for 3 modules) due in 4 weeks and i haven't done anything. in the midst of having tests. newer lecture notes piling up while we stop work to concentrate on revising for tests.
and not surprisingly, after the exams, work will pile up again. wow. i didn't anticipate that.
oh well, that leaves people like tingting and myself to "de-stress" and joke around during nursing lab sessions. hah.
no points for guessing who was the photographer. tingting la. haha. i'm supposed to have an injured hand and ready for my bath. what a happy patient.
and those were the days we could afford not to pay attention during anatomy lectures. we're all stretching our ears to listen during anat lects despite the lecturers' accents. well ok, there's still occasional nodding of heads during lect. but who doesn't? i know one who slept through last week's digestive system 2 lect. haha. OLIVE (:

RECESS WEEK!!
i really don't know what i'm so excited about recess week, really. its only more mugging time to swallow (LITERALLY swallow) anatomy in time for CA1 next week. damn. why did they have to add the essay portion for anat?? sigh.
well, recess week won't be recess week if it doesn't include some de-stressing times. so daphne being daphne, she set tuesday as a day of nothing but fun. no physio, no anatomy, no work at all. Went to Sentosa to "beach" and ride the attractions after a long long time. i'm quite psyched up to find out what sentosa will look like once the IR is up though. looks like a huge site.
"beached" for a long time under the scorching sun. like what Gabriel says, nick and i can be man reds already. haha. Olive, when sch re-opens, i'll look as if i had nothing but fun during recess break. haha. joke.
picture uploads!!

Thanks for a day of fun!! kudos to nick, gabriel, lucas and shu ying (:
Not forgetting... QUAD FAC BASH @ ZOUK!
great job done by dancing team from nursing (:
Nursing reps for pageant, male & female, won first runner up and first respectively (:

Finally i get to catch the fireworks by the french team. its preeeetttttyyyyy...... hahah. its just a pity this year's SFF is just over ONE weekend. last year was over a few weekends. oh well. guess they found great losses. each "pop" will prolly be a few thousands of bucks exploded in the air.
its just as good as burning your cash. literally. anyways, here's the only shot for the night. cos i was too busy watching it with my own eyes (:
managed to hide away from the crowd to catch the fireworks. it was a beautiful night. well there's one more by the korean team this evening, if you can, go catch it. worth the squeeze in the train. haha.
SCHOOL: everything's going quite alright, except for the fact that i have to do readings about what was taught after every lecture. too bad i don't have any bio-background. i really regret not taking bio in sec school. its a lovely subject, and i'm now being punished for not taking it. i have to absorb all in 1 sem. shit.
shopping with the girls is a huuuugggeeee distraction from my texts. but i can't help it either! Tiff brought Olive and I over to chinatown to make our own belts and necklaces. freakin' cheap! price differences:
Bugis street (ready-made): $13
Chinatown (make yourself): $6
and we directed our shopping to chinatown for the day instead. $10 dresses and all. hahah. had so much fun. i'm gonna spend the next 2-3 weeks doing damage-control in my wallet before heading down again for more good deals!!
*cheerios!

I actually found out that anatomy isn't my greatest fear. rather, its physiology. i'm FREAKIN' blur during physiology lectures and the person standing at the front with the least amount of hair speaking to us ZOOMS like an aeroplane. (its quite obvious to see why HE has a PHD and i don't!) to think that the speed of my brain is just at "motorcar" level. haha. he just assumes everyone has done 4 years worth of pure bio.
shit.
so i have no choice but to chiong physiology before every lecture. its crazy. the textbook alone can kill. i can try dropping it on your feet and you'll get purple toes. eww.
so for now, my one and only love shall be Martini- fundamentals of anatomy & physiology.
Bye Bye Bye.
I love physiology, I love physiology, I love physiology.
**notice how i ALWAYS seem to have problems with subjects starting with "PHY"??
eg. PHYsics, PHYsiology.

Its the last day i can officially relax and fool-around with the time i have in my hands. School starts tmr at 8.30. SIGH. and to make things worse, i didn't get the ballot for the carpark next to med school. SHIT. so on days my bro doesn't need to go to school, i gotta take the bus and mrt to school. CANNED SARDINES, HERE I COME!! so i'm leaving the house at 7 for school tmr. ugh.
update, update! i straightened my hair!!! haha. finally i had the guts to do so. and it looks really natural! so I LIKE IT (: total damage to the pocket: $205 incl. hair treatment. it cost so much, it better look good. haha.
Bought a new laptop from school ytd, NEC. $2066.15 for a 13.3" 1.8kg with battery pack. cute!
There was also the CCA fair on during the matriculation fair. Joined netball. haha. one thing i like about their trainings. they don't train in the afternoon (: trainings are on tues 6.30-9pm. kudos to Olive and Ting Ting for joining netball with me (: you girls are the sweetest!
ok, that's all for now, so i'll post updates about school next time then. P.S. I'm probably gonna get funny pictures from the first-aid theory and practical courses. hahaha.

The final chapter in my education life AS A KID.
Nursing @ NUS (:
Orientation camp ended 3 days ago and matriculation and registration day for all medical-related faculties is tomorrow. Orientation was fun, basically cos of the TWO out of the six guys in nursing we had in our OG (that gave us a huge advantage in physical games) and our lovable banana seniors like Jasmine, Brigitte and Shah.
fancy being able to meet loadsa NYJC girls in nursing (both my batch and senior batches) INCLUDING primary school CCA senior, Jasmine Tan! to think it was already coincidental for me to have lester from rosyth as my classmate in JC.

BANANAS IN PYJAMAS! coming in over-all champions on day-four of camp.
there were loadsa pics of my group taken during all the funny/crazy things we were doing like the costume party and all. we morphed our costumes from bananas in pyjamas to bananas in PER-JUMPERS. derived from the lack of blue duct tape we had to work with. hahah. i'll try to locate it and post them up again later on.
Labels: yesterday was our first and our sweetest. i still get butterflies in my stomach now...

Pics from Mt. Kinabalu climb. (long over-due)
here are some pics as promised from the previous post (:

we LOOK all psyched up for the climb! I had NO IDEA what was in store for me.

First, it was all steps.

Then the higher you go, the rockier it gets. Like my dad says, "It can only get worse."
...TORTURE
TORTURE
TORTURE... Till we reach the "base" camp.
View from "base" camp. its freaking not base man! its effing high!!!!
take photo, take photo, take photo... with our very own army boys from SINGAPORE!!

Bracing ourselves for a trecherous descent. ughh..

Niceeeee viewwwwww......

And it AIN'T as easy as it looks. we're just smiling in every picture just to look good in the picture. read previous post for details of climb and complaints from Ms Daphne Lim. haha.
wanna see how it really was to climb that mountain.....?
Lack of the necessary O2.

updates, UPdates, UPDATES!!!
1. Climbed Mt. Kinabalu and came down ALIVE!! its crazy there. you need to be insane to decide to climb it.
2. Accepted offer for NHG scholarship.
3. Received crucial test dates & test dates for school in AUGUST 2008. its just the first month of school man! sigh...
Maximum altitude of mountain: 4095.2m
Elevation Daphne reached: 3554.6m
I couldn't bring myself to go any higher. The air is SO thin, very little oxygen for my dear lungs to breathe, it was freaking cold and windy when we were approaching the peak, and its was raining. I had to turn back cos i treasured my dear life. haha.
Picture this:
Day one:
- 8am, set off to climb up to "halfway house" (its not really halfway, rather its at 3/4 the altitude of the mountain)
- damn alot of suffering and breathlessness along the way up.
- 3.45pm, reach halfway house. rest, take a shower, have dinner.
- 6pm, SLEEP.
Day two:
- 2am, wake up and get ready for remainder climb to the peak.
- 2.30am, set off for climb.
- 7am, return to halfway house for breakfast.
-8.30am, set off to descend down the rest of the mountain.
- 1.45pm, reach foot of mountain. I was kissing the ground then. my legs couldn't hold me any longer!
I couldn't walk properly for 5 days after the climb. I won't be going back there anymore. the lack of oxygen is enough to scare me. Imagine this, at the point you start off climbing, its already at the height of Genting Highlands in Malaysia! I'm not going back there. But I don't know about youuu.....
I've got photos of the climb. but i'll post it some other time when i've uploaded it on my com.
- Accepted NHG scholarship offer
Well, there's nothing much to say for this YET.. haven't signed the deed with ttsh yet. I pray pray pray I can live with this bond i'm about to bring myself into.
Yes, school's starting, but i'm excited and scared at the same time. I'm scared cos I just received the crucial dates for first aid in August.
4 Aug: First Aid course Lecture
5 Aug: First Aid course Lecture
6 Aug: Test (20 MCQ) [its damn fast la!!! either i have to absorb damn fast, or they're testing on don't know what stuff]
15 Aug: First Aid Course Practice
15 Aug: Practical test
** and i haven't been to ANY first aid courses in my life!!!! HOW SIA.
MELLLLL, i'm wishing i had your first aid cert now........ hahhaa.
While others can enjoy orientation for a while, I gotta muggggg for my tests.......
